They say no pain, no gain,
But does that apply to self-inflicted pain?
My body and mind, I had to train
To reach the great heights I need to attain.
Keep grinding, keep working, don’t complain,
Someday you’ll see the hard work wasn’t in vain.
They say no pain, no gain,
A statement I used to disdain.
Why should a gain I obtain come after pain?
That isn’t fair, a thought going through my brain.
They say no pain, no gain,
Damn, here we go again.
But not all pain has a gain,
Some are just irrelevant and inhumane.
They say no pain, no gain,
And I think I’m starting to understand the refrain.
Without pain, life would be boring and mundane,
Life without adversity would indeed be lame.
That’s why we were given the word “pain.”
