Each time I try to write, your absence fills me with longing.
It doesn’t matter how much I try, it always tears me apart.
They called it love—
because I knew your games like the back of my hand,
because I argued over games and accessories
I’d never even seen,
just to echo the things that made you smile.
I was mesmerized by how happy you sounded when you spoke of them
By the passion in your eyes that I would’ve given anything to be worthy of.
So I drowned in the world of gaming -listening and learning till I could hold my own. What I wanted was to catch your interest forever. I wanted nothing more than to hear the laughter that brightens up my world.
Little did I know, that like an NPC, I meant nothing to you.
You were a fixed point in my world but I was barely in yours, a side character that could easily be replaced.
I learnt my lesson. So I stopped waiting for your quest to lead you to me. Your laughter still echoes in places I may never forget. My pen still spells your name, making it harder to respawn into another world.
“You were a fixed point in my world but I was barely in yours, a side character that could easily be replaced.”
And replaced I was like I never existed, you were mine but I was never yours… I felt that to my bones 😭
Beautiful piece, as always, b.
