Almost

Written By Margo

As children, we were warned of the deadliest things known to man:
Fire, sharp objects, moving vehicles, guns
No one taught us the deadliest word known to man
“Almost”

A word that means something nearly happened but didn’t.
You almost told me you loved me
I almost begged you to stay
You almost came for me
We almost became a couple.
Nearly, but never did.

“Almost” leaves in its wake a trail of blood and tears filled with broken dreams, shattered hearts and broken people.

I seem to be trapped on an island
That I can’t seem to get away from
I was almost chosen
I was almost the one
I was almost loved
I was almost, I was almost
I WAS ALMOST!

I want to know what it feels like
To be the one
To be chosen
To be yours
I want to be loved, not almost loved.
Maybe one day, I will get that
But for now, you are almost mine
And I almost believed it.
